Xbox fans have so far had to assume that they will have to wait at least until early 3 for Baldur's Gate 2024. Now came the surprising twist: the highly praised role-playing game will probably be released for Xbox Series X|S this year.
The split-screen mode is said to have created a particular challenge on the budget version of the current-gen Xbox, which is why a release of Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox Series X|S was actually no longer an option.
Split-screen co-op only on Xbox Series X
On Twitter, Swen Vincke, head of Larian Studios, announced the good news that fans were hoping for, but not expecting: Baldur's Gate 3 is expected to come out for the current Xbox consoles in 2023.
Vincke stated that there was a meeting with Xbox boss Phil Spencer and that a solution was found there. The ultimate result: Baldur's Gate 3 is coming this year for fans of Microsoft's consoles.
Swen Vincke spread the good news on Twitter or “X”: “It is with great pleasure that I can confirm that after meeting with 'XboxP3' yesterday we have found a solution that will enable us to release Baldur's Gate 3 this year “to make available to Xbox players.” We have been working towards this for some time.
However, the versions of Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will not be completely the same: the version on the budget console will therefore not have split-screen co-op.
As Vincke confirms, all improvements will be present, including split-screen co-op on the Series X. The Series S will not have split-screen co-op. But: According to the Larian boss, there will definitely be cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.
